My Story
Hobby Crocheter to Full-Time Designer
Crochet has been part of my life since my mom taught me as a little girl – though I did take quite a long break in my teens and twenties!
When I started having my own babies and spending more evenings in than out, I picked up my crochet hook again. That was back in 2012, and since then, crochet has grown into so much more than a hobby.
Ned & Mimi began as a side hustle while I was working as a software developer and balancing life with three kids. Over time, I gradually reduced my work hours and these days I am so lucky to be able focus on crochet design full-time.
And although my laptop gets switched off 2:30pm every day when the kids get out of school, my crochet hooks are always with me.
Creativity Meets Numbers
Younger me was always making things – crocheting little bags, sewing clothes for my dolls, always with a project on the go.
As I moved through school and into working life, that love of making took a back seat. And then, when I had my own lovely children, my creative spark was reignited – and today, it’s at the heart of both my life and my business.
For me, crochet is where my childhood creativity meets my love of numbers, structure, and detail. With my background in software development, I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving and spreadsheets – and pattern writing gives me the perfect way to bring both sides together.
Yarn and Life
In the early days of Ned & Mimi, I put (completely unnecessary) pressure on myself to churn out design after design. But over time, I’ve realised that hustle isn’t the way I want to work or live.
These days, I’m more focused on intentional growth – choosing projects that truly light me up, being present with my family, and building a business that feels both sustainable and joyful. Crochet has given me more than a business, it is also a way to explore who I am, how I want to show up, and what I want to create – both in yarn and in life.
I’m constantly learning – experimenting with new techniques, educating myself on garment shaping and size inclusivity, and trying out different yarn weights and fibres. Juggling kids and working from home isn’t always easy, but I wake up every day excited to be a designer.

Who are Ned & Mimi!?
N.E.D are the initials of my three children, and ‘Mimi’ was my middle child’s way of calling for me when she was learning to talk. So, Ned & Mimi is really just a little piece of my family and me.
